James Teufel, MPH, PhD, is the Director of Data of the Utah Supreme Court’s Office of Legal Services Innovation and the Data Analyst of Law Society of Ontario’s Access to Innovation. He has contributed to the data driven regulatory system for the Office of Legal Services Innovation. He is a recognized scholar focused on the intersection of civil justice and health. He was a former Associate Professor of Public Health who established two undergraduate programs for universities and an Analyst for the Research Triangle Institute International focusing on child development. He was previously the National Director of Health and Evaluation of a nonprofit focused on older adult and intergenerational project development and delivery. Until July 2021, Dr. Teufel was the President of the Board of the Neighborhood Health Centers of the Lehigh Valley, a federally-qualified health center. He has also advised organizations focused on legal services, including the American Bar Association, Civil Legal Aid Society of Delaware, the National Center for Medical-Legal Partnership, North Penn Legal Services, and The Pew Charitable Trusts. Dr. Teufel has developed, managed, and directed innovations in the areas of health and legal services. He is particularly interested in scaling and sustaining innovative solutions to social problems. He has developed programs to improve the health of children and older adults and evaluated the contributions of legal services to people and society. He has participated in over 100 national professional presentations and 40 professional publications. Dr. Teufel contributed to the business case for medical-legal partnerships and the social return on investment of legal services. Dr. Teufel received the 2015 National Medical-Legal Partnership Advocate of the Year Award.
